Mike Chard

Michael Chard is a retired solicitor with 42 years' experience in the Legal Profession. He is a specialist in property, insurance and professional indemnity insurance.

Mike has been the Managing Partner of a substantial law firm and also the head of large Property, Private Client and Litigation departments. On his retirement from the legal profession, he became Chairman of a leading insurance broker specialising in professional indemnity insurance for accountants, architects, solicitors and surveyors, and Chairman of a leading training company.

Stuart Lee

Stuart is a Law Society Accredited Lexcel Assessor and Consultant and has also completed Risk and Compliance Consultancy on their behalf. He is a member of the Lord Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Justices of the Peace for Merseyside. He is an associate auditor of the SQM Delivery Partnership where he has trained their assessors, served as Lead Auditor and delivered over 40 workshops, training over 400 legal providers on their behalf.  He conducts Lexcel assessments for all three assessment bodies.

From 1999 – 2011 Stuart spent 12 years working for the Legal Services Commission (Legal Aid Agency) in several Senior Management Positions. He was Area Contract Manager for Merseyside and Head of the LSC’S Specialist Mental Health Unit from 2006 – 2009. He continues to support legal practices in relation to all areas of compliance with their Legal Aid Agency Contracts including assessment and tendering, having a keen interest in and passion for Public Funded work. In 2005 Stuart achieved a Masters Degree in Business Administration.

Prior to joining the LSC, Stuart worked in the I.T. industry and financial sector in various account management, quality assurance and training roles. 

Stuart is an experienced speaker and has spoken at conferences organised by The Law Society, the Legal Aid Practitioners Group and the Mental Health Lawyers Association as well as delivering several CPD accredited training courses.

Simon Bray

Simon Bray has a wealth of management experience within the legal profession, both as a consultant and as a senior manager. From a background of sales and marketing within the legal publishing industry, Simon moved into consultancy in the mid-1980s, providing law firms with advice on marketing and business development. Simon later advised over 40 law firms in successful bids for Franchise accreditation as well as supporting Investors in People and ISO 9000 projects.

He was also employed as Operations Director at Nelsons, one of the largest firms in the East Midlands, during a period of rapid and substantial growth. Simon was responsible for overall management of the firm's IT, Quality and Facilities departments, and held specific responsibility for day -to-day management of one of the firm's principal offices.  

Simon has also acted as Chambers Director for a leading Temple-based set of chambers, and is currently retained for two days per week to provide compliance and risk management support for Gosschalks, a leading Humberside practice. He can be contacted at
